Off-Season Tent TLC
Make Sure Your Shelter Keeps Smiling.
Your tent is made tough, but like all good gear that sees the wild, it’ll take a few hits. So give it a little love every now and then—seasonal maintenance goes a long way toward keeping your RISE tent (or whatever tent you roll with) adventure-ready for years.
Show Your Tent Some Love.
Although RISE tents are made from SilPoly (generally more UV-resistant than nylon) they are still susceptible to harmful UV rays — known to chew through coatings, break down fabrics, and turn any shelter faded and brittle over time. Your RISE tent comes fully waterproofed straight from the box. But over time excessive usage and harsh weather can also chip away at that barrier that keeps you dry inside. If you want to do your tent a favour, apply a UV treatment such as Nikwax Tent & Gear Solarwash – spray-on waterproofer and UV blocker that takes care of all of the above. **Bonus tip: always wash your tent gently with warm soapy water before applying any DWR treatment. And please read the instructions on the product first.
Seal the Deal (Only When Needed)
Every RISE shelter comes pre-taped and sealed. (It’s actually a pretty cool manufacturing process.) But after a few seasons of downpours, dust, and snow, you might start to notice a dribble or two. That’s when it’s time for a touch-up. If you notice the seam tape starting to flake or peel, fully remove it and reseal the seams, with Gear Aid’s Seam Grip SIL Silicone Tent Sealant.
Zip It Good
Zippers are a crucial part of any tent that love a little cleaning now and then. Use a toothbrush and some soapy water to keep all of those little teeth happy. A happy zipper = a tent that actually closes when the bugs roll in. **Bonus tip: Put an old toothbrush in with the tent pegs and clean the zippers once in a while. It really helps.
Home Sweet Storage
After every adventure, make sure your tent is bone dry before you put it away!! With the AirNEST, unzip the mattress as well as the vestibule, and dry separately. Always store your tent in a dry, temperature controlled environment. Keep it nice and toasty INSIDE as much as possible. Make sure your tent is clean, dry and free of debris every time you store it.
A Little Love Goes a Long Way
Your tent’s got your back. Return the favour and it'll keep showing up for years of sleep-under-the-stars glory.
Stay wild.
