Poncho Libre

Poncho Libre

Blanket • Tablecloth • Poncho

The inspiration for Poncho Libre began in a small Mexican market more than 35 years ago, when a village seamstress in Oaxaca stitched a zipper down the middle of a bright red blanket, transforming it into a poncho built for a lifetime of travel.

Over the next three decades, this "Mexi-blanket" roamed the world, keeping us company on chicken buses, overnight trains, ferries, and countless airport floors. It kept us warm at camp, dressed up countless picnic tables, and became the one thing we never left behind.

Poncho Libre is our tribute to the original. And yes, it still travels with us today.

Faqs

Everything you need to know about Poncho Libre.

Can I put it in the washing machine?

Absolutely. We actually recommend machine washing it before its first adventure. Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle, then add ONE CUP OF WHITE VINEGAR to the rinse cycle instead of fabric softener. Hang or lay it flat to air dry. A little shedding during the first couple of washes is completely normal and will settle over time.

How do I take care of my Poncho Libre?

Wash cold, wash gentle. Cold water, gentle cycle — keep it easy on the fibers so it stays soft for many adventures to come.Vinegar over softener. This one's an absolute MUST. Instead of fabric softener, use ONE CUP of white vinegar in the rinse cycle. It's the trick that keeps the shed down and the softness up.Air dry, always. Skip the dryer and lay it flat or hang it up. Heat is the enemy of soft.A little shed is normal. New acrylic settles in after the first couple of washes. Give it a shake, wash it once (with vinegar) before first use, and it's ready for the trail, the table, or the couch.

What is Poncho Libre made from?

Poncho Libre is woven from 100% premium acrylic, chosen for its softness, warmth, durability, and vibrant colors. It delivers the cozy feel of a traditional Mexican blanket while standing up to years of camping, road trips, beach days, and everyday adventures.

What's the size of Poncho Libre?

Poncho Libre measures 195 × 145 cm (77 × 57 in)—about the size of a Double (Full) bed, with a little extra room. It's big enough to wear as a poncho, share around the campfire, cover a picnic table, stretch out on the beach, or curl up under on the couch.

Is it warm enough for camping?

Yes. While it's not a sleeping bag, Poncho Libre adds a surprising amount of warmth around camp, on cool evenings, at the beach, during road trips, or anywhere you need an extra layer. It's designed to be the blanket you'll reach for again and again.

Why is it called Poncho Libre?

Libre is the Spanish word for free. For us, it represents the freedom to roam, explore, and connect with the outdoors. More than 35 years ago, a village seamstress in Oaxaca stitched a zipper into a simple Mexican blanket, creating a poncho that traveled the world with us. Poncho Libre is our tribute to that original—and to the spirit of Seek Freedom that inspires every product we make.
